No experience is necessary—our lessons start with the basics, including how to hold the brush, so anyone can enjoy learning. Create your own beautiful calligraphy piece and take home a unique souvenir of your time in Japan. We look forward to welcoming you in Fukuoka!
Calligraphy lessons are available from just one participant for foreign visitors. A female instructor with the highest-level Shodo certification will guide you gently and carefully, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) is a traditional art form that has long been cherished in Japan and is popular as an extracurricular activity for children. Beyond learning beautiful writing, it helps improve concentration, posture, and brings a sense of calm. In this experience, you’ll be guided through the unique tools of Japanese calligraphy—such as brushes, ink, and inkstones—while practicing yourself.

現在約100名の生徒を持ち、豊富な経験と的確なアドバイスで、初めての方でも安心して学べます。
Your instructor, Yu-ko, holds the highest level certification in Nihon Shuji (Japan Calligraphy Association) and teaches around 100 students. With extensive experience, she offers clear and supportive guidance, making it easy for beginners to enjoy.
自分の作品をお持ち帰りできます（Take Your Artwork Home）
体験では、実際に筆で書いた作品をお持ち帰りいただけます。
色紙、扇子、だるま、風鈴、掛け軸など、いくつかのアイテムからお好きなものを選んで、世界に一つだけの作品を作ります。
During the experience, you can take home a piece of artwork that you create using a traditional brush. Choose your favorite item from several options—such as a shikishi (decorative paper board), folding fan, daruma doll, wind chime, or hanging scroll—and create a one-of-a-kind piece that is uniquely yours.

教室は福岡のベッドタウンに位置し、博多駅や福岡空港から電車・車ともに約30分とアクセスが便利です。
体験は完全プライベート空間で実施しており、リラックスしながら日本文化を堪能できます。
The classroom is located in a residential area of Fukuoka, about 30 minutes from Hakata Station or Fukuoka Airport by train or car. All experiences are held in a private room, allowing you to relax and immerse yourself in Japanese culture comfortably.

At the end of the session, you can take your own completed work home with you.

まずは簡単なご挨拶から始めます。その後、書道で使用する基本的な道具（筆・墨・硯・半紙など）についてご説明いたします。
道具の意味や使い方を知ることで、書道への理解がより深まります。
また、本日の体験の流れについても詳しくご案内いたしますので、安心してご参加ください。

We begin with a brief welcome and greeting. Then, we will explain the basic tools used in Japanese calligraphy, such as the brush, ink stick, ink stone, and rice paper. Understanding the meaning and use of each tool will deepen your appreciation of calligraphy.
We will also walk you through the steps of today’s experience so you can enjoy it with confidence. This part takes about 10 minutes.
書道では、正しい姿勢を保つことがとても大切です。
ここでは、椅子の座り方、背筋の伸ばし方、筆を持つときの腕の位置など、基本的な姿勢についてご案内します。
正しい姿勢を身につけることで、美しい文字が書きやすくなるだけでなく、集中力も高まります。

In Japanese calligraphy, maintaining proper posture is essential. We will guide you on how to sit correctly on your chair, keep your back straight, and position your arms when holding the brush. Having the right posture not only makes it easier to write beautiful characters but also helps you stay focused during the practice.This part takes about 5 minutes.
書道の魅力のひとつは、固形の墨を自分で磨って墨を作るところです。水を硯に注ぎ、墨をゆっくりと円を描くように磨っていきます。
墨をする時間は心を落ち着かせる大切な工程であり、書く前の準備としてとても重要です。
今回は、この伝統的な墨磨りの体験をしていただきます。

One of the unique aspects of Japanese calligraphy is making your own ink from a solid ink stick. You will pour a small amount of water onto the ink stone and slowly grind the ink stick in circular motions. This process is not only essential for preparing to write but also a calming ritual that helps you focus. Today, you will experience this traditional way of making ink by hand.This part takes about 15 minutes.
いよいよ実際に筆を使って書く準備です。
ここでは、基本的な筆の持ち方をご説明します。
筆は鉛筆とは違い、まっすぐ立てて持つことが大切です。
指や手首の使い方、力の入れ具合なども一緒に練習していきます。

Now it’s time to prepare for actual writing. We will explain the basic way to hold a calligraphy brush. Unlike a pencil, the brush should be held upright. You will also practice how to use your fingers and wrist, as well as how much pressure to apply while writing.This part takes about 5 minutes.
まずは好きな漢字をひとつ選んでいただきます。
その後、基本的な線の書き方を練習し、選んだ漢字をお手本を見ながら書いていただきます。
筆の動かし方や形を意識しながら、繰り返し練習して作品作りに備えます。
※所要時間は約40分です。
You will first choose your favorite kanji character. Then, we will practice basic brush strokes and have you copy the chosen character using a model example. You’ll focus on brush movement and form through repeated practice to prepare for your final piece. The session takes about 40 minutes.
練習した漢字を、仕上げとしてお好きなアイテムに書いていただきます。
色紙・うちわ・扇子・だるま・風鈴・掛け軸の中からお選びいただけます。
世界にひとつだけのオリジナル作品を作る時間です。

You will complete your experience by writing your chosen kanji on an item of your choice.
You can select from a paper board (shikishi), hand fan (uchiwa), folding fan (sensu), daruma doll, wind chime, or hanging scroll (kakejiku).
This is your time to create a one-of-a-kind original artwork to take home.The session takes about 15 minutes.

書道体験の概要（Summary）
対象者（Eligibility）
外国人の方であれば、在住者・旅行者問わず、1名様から最大6名様まで書道体験を受講いただけます。
ただし、プライベート空間での実施となるため、男性のみのグループでのご参加はご遠慮いただいております。
6歳以上のお子様は、1名として参加人数に含まれます。
Both residents and tourists who are foreign nationals are welcome to join our calligraphy experience, from 1 up to 6 participants.
Please note that, as the experience is held in a private space, we do not accept bookings from all-male groups. Thank you for your understanding.Children aged 6 and older will be counted as one participant.

The calligraphy experience takes approximately 90 minutes.
Some items for creating your final piece are included in the experience fee, while others may require an additional charge.

基本的な道具はすべてこちらで用意していますので、手ぶらでお越しください。ただし、墨で衣服が汚れる場合がありますので、汚れてもよい服装でお越しください。
We provide all necessary tools and materials, so you can come empty-handed. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained, as ink may splash. - 子供は参加できますか？
